If you ask a bunch of writers and composers to write a 10-minute musical in a week, nearly all of them will come back with a 12-minute musical that didn’t have quite enough development time to figure out what it wants to be. So, we ask our artists to aim for 8 minutes. Enough said.
When is all this happening?
Our next event is February 18 - March 7, 2011.
8Minute Musicals is designed so that even people with day jobs can participate. Click below for info...

How do I get involved?
8Minute Musicals is a two-week workshop process designed to nurture talented writers and composers in NYC. We create opportunities for artists to meet new collaborators, explore new ways of working, and create new short musicals that are performed off-book and fully staged in front of an audience. The process-oriented workshop serves as a microcosm for creating a full-length show. We select creative teams very carefully because once the process is in motion we are committed to producing the work that is created.
We are currently seeking writers, composers, directors, music directors, performers, management, and support staff for our upcoming event this winter. Click here for info about applying.

Why 8 Minutes and not 10?
What is 8Minute Musicals?
The inspiration for 8Minute Musicals was the Jonathan Larson Award-winning Raw Impressions Music Theatre, founded by David Rodwin and Patrick Mellen, which premiered over 150 new short musicals from 2001 - 2006.
